A delegation of over 40 overseas journalists currently visiting Guangdong arrived in Guangzhou today (July 30th), the last stop on their tour. They met with the secretary of Guangdong's CPC committee, Wang Yang, to hear his views on the state of the province's economy. Since Monday (July 27th) the delegation has been to Shenzhen, Huizhou and Dongguan and has been observing how the PRD is tackling the global financial crisis.

The local government initiated a campaign to collect public opinions via the internet in an effort to improve the city's performance. The campaign lasted five months, during which Foshan's party secretary and mayors have chatted online with the netizens. Suggestions that could easily be put into practices have been given to the relevant departments to be implemented. Zhang Wins China's First Ever Men's Gold at Swimming Worlds Zhang Lin broke the world record in the men's 800 meters freestyle at the World Championships in Rome on Wednesday (July 30th). Zhang clocked 7:32.12 seconds, nearly seven seconds faster than the previous world record. His performance secured China it's first ever gold medal in a world swimming championship in the men's category.

Chinese shares end higher on central bank's pledge on moderately loosen monetary policy Chinese equities recovered today (July 30th) from yesterday's plunge after the central bank pledged last night to firmly stick to the moderately easy monetary policy and consolidate the recovery momentum of the economy. The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose by 1.69 percent, or 55 points, to finish the day at 3,321. The Shenzhen Component Index gained 1.54 percent, or 201 points, to end at 13,272.
