Guangdong to Establish Dust-haze Monitoring Center Guangdong will build a provincial-level dust and haze monitoring center, as suggested in a report presented by the Provincial Government and discussed this afternoon (July 29) by Guangdong's CPC Committee. The report states the haze and dust has led to a rise in the numbers in patients suffering from respiratory diseases and that the budget allocated for monitoring services within the PRD is not sufficient to cope with these changes.
Oil Prices Drop in Guangdong In the wake of a nationwide drop in oil prices, Guangdong has announced it too would cut prices starting today. Gasoline will be capped between 5.63 yuan per liter and 6.57 yuan per liter. Though oil prices have drop, travellers will be disappointed to hear that the fuel surcharge on domestic air flights will resume after a half-year suspension. Starting this Saturday (August 1st), travellers will pay an additional of 20 yuan on flights under 800 kilometers, and 40 yuan for over 800 kilometers.
More Cultural Exchanges to be Strengthened between GD and Europe Guangdong is expected to strengthen cultural ties with Europe, with more artists and curators invited to attend the biennial Europalia Art Festival next year. Mr. Felix, the Belgian Consul-General in Guangzhou who is soon to leave his position, made this statement whilst meeting for the last time with Guangdong Vice-Governor, Wan Qingliang.

Liede Bridge to Be Opened Tomorrow in Guangzhou In Guangzhou, the long-awaited Liede bridge will open to traffic tomorrow (July 30). The new bridge will fonction as a traffic junction linking Tianhe, Haizhu and Panyu districts, greatly relieving pressure from the Huanan Expressway and Guangzhou Dadao.
