Messenger Set out to Singapore and Malaysia to Promote the Games A team consisting of 100 Guangzhou citizens and celebrities set out for Singapore and Malaysia today (June 30) to mark the 500th day countdown to the Guangzhou Asian Games. As a first group of Guangzhou Asian Games messengers, their mission is to promote the Games to the rest of the Asian world. Each of them is carrying a letter signed by Guangzhou Mayor, Zhang Guangning, inviting friends to attend the Games.


1 million tickets will be on-sale beginning next January 1 million tickets for the Guangzhou Asian Games will be put on-sale across the world beginning next January. Spectators will be able to buy the tickets on-line, through ticket agents, or at onsite ticket offices. The Guangdong City Line Ticketing Office became the exclusive ticket vendor for the Games after the two sides signed an agreement yesterday (June 29). The Asian Games Organizing Committee said the ticket prices will be determined in full consideration of Chinese people's income levels, and that efforts would be made to offer enough tickets to satisfy the population.

Asian Games Knowledge Online Contest launched The Asian Games Online Knowledge Contest was been launched across China to raise awareness and enthusiasm for the Games. Those interested in participating can visit the official website at http://zhishi.gz2010.cn and discover a colorful and interactive site. Over 8,000 prizes will be given out over both the preliminary stage and the finals. The preliminary contest will last until the 15th of August.

China Raises Gasoline, Diesel Prices by About 0.45 yuan per Liter And once again, this morning China has raised the price gasoline and diesel by 600 yuan (about 87.8 U.S. dollars) per tonne, starting 12:00 a.m. Tuesday. Car owners will be paying about 0.45 yuan per liter more for gasoline and 0.51 yuan per liter for diesel, respectively an 8.6% and a 9.6% rise. Today's oil price increase was the third this year and according to the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), it is in response to "recent international oil price fluctuations" due to the country's new fuel pricing mechanism. Oil prices settled at just over 69 dollars a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange on Friday, registering a 4.2% rise from the price of 66 dollars a barrel when the last adjustment took place on May 31.

The Export and Import Bank of China Launched GD Branch The Export and Import Bank of China, a policy-oriented financial institution under the direct leadership of the State Council, opened a Guangdong branch yesterday (June 29) in Guangzhou. The bank will have jurisdiction over Guangdong and Guangxi, but will exclude Shenzhen. During a meeting yesterday with the bank's Chairman and President Li Ruogu, Guangdong governor Huang Huahua pointed out that the opening of this new branch will offer strong support to Guangdong's foreign-oriented economy. It will help stabilize Guangdong's exports, facilitate industrial upgrade, and further promote cooperation between Guangdong and Hong Kong.
Australia's New South Wales State Opens First Overseas Office in Guangzhou
The state of New South Wales, in Australia where Sydney is located, opened its first overseas office in Guangzhou today (June 29), an important step to mark the 30th anniversary of their sister relationship with Guangdong. Mr. Macdonald, the Minister for Primary Industries and Minister for Energy for New South Wales, said that the new Guangzhou office will facilitate economic and trade relationships with Guangdong.
