13 billion Injected into Vocational Schools
Between 2007 and 2011, Guangdong will invest over 13 billion yuan for the development of vocational education to meet the demand of the employment market. Secondary vocational and technical schools throughout the province will expand their recruitment plan by more than 100,000 people this year. Estimations show that by 2011, there will be over 2 million secondary vocational and technical students in Guangdong.
Hong Kong & Guangdong Strengthen Economic Ties
The 2009 Business Fair for Hong Kong-Guangdong Economic, Technology and Trade Cooperation commenced in Hong Kong yesterday (June 23). 25 key projects involving over 1.2 billion USD are expected to be signed during the 3-day fair. Seminars on implementing the Plan for the Reform and Development of the Pearl River Delta and coping with the financial crisis will also be held.
Asia Reports 1st Flu death; Philippines shuts Congress
Yesterday (June 23), the Philippines closed the lower house of Congress for a length of six days sending home about 3,000 workers after A (H1N1) cases were reported in the offices. Ramon Roque, a doctor and deputy secretary-general of the House of Representatives, said that the 49-year-old woman who died last week from symptoms exacerbated by the flu was a member of a congressional committee.
New Storm May Hit GD
After Linfa swept across Guangdong, most people were hoping for a quiet following few days. Unfortunately, meteorological experts say that a new tropical storm, called Nangka, formed at 2 PM yesterday (June 23) at sea, off the east coast of the Philippines. Experts warn that Nangka may affect Guangdong, convincing the anti-flood headquarters to request local governments to take precautionary measures.
