Land Sold at Record High Price The last lot of residential land in Guangzhou's Zhujiang New city was auctioned-off at a record high price yesterday (June 10). The price reached 2.5 times the original offer therefore increasing the expected floor value to 15,300 yuan per square meters; houses are therefore expected to be priced between 25,000 to 30,000 yuan per square meters. The land was sold to Guangzhou City Construction & Development Property Holdings, one of the leading real estate companies in the province.

Indian Plans to Send More Companies to Canton Fair The Chair woman of the Indian Trade Promotion Organization, Mrs. Sheela Bhide, paid a visit yesterday (June 10) to Guangdong Vice Governor, Wan Qingliang. The two sides exchanged ideas on coping with the global financial crisis and pledged to work closer on economic and trade projects. Mrs. Bhide said the Indian government will encourage more companies to attend Canton Fair. ''India is in the 5 top countries participating in the Canton fair and next year, we will organize even more participants to attend.'' Wan Qingliang said he highly valued cooperation with India and stressed the need to strengthen the existing ties: ''First, we can enhance exchanges with high-level visits and try to find common grounds on major issues. Second, we should strengthen trade and economic cooperation. And finally, we should make more efforts to promote our two markets to each other. ''
WHO on Verge of Declaring H1N1 Pandemic The World Health Organization said Tuesday a spike in A(H1N1) cases in Australia may push it to finally announce the first flu pandemic in 41 years. It also expressed concern that the virus might be mutating after Canada reported an unusual rise in the number of severe cases of the illness. The WHO said the virus has infected over 27,700 people throughout 73 countries and regions, causing 141 deaths. Most of the cases have been reported in North America, but Australia has seen a sharp increase in recent days.
