Guangdong to Sign Over 300 Trade Cooperation Projects with Hunan
A Trade delegation from Guangdong led by Wang Yang, the Secretary of Guangdong's CPC Committee began its visit to Changsha yesterday (May 21st). This is the delegation's 6th stop on its national promotion tour. More from our reporter Yangzhen:
Guangdong is hoping to sign over 300 trade cooperation projects with Hunan, with a total investment of over 52 billion yuan. After a ceremony was held to sign the first contracts, Wang Yang visited booths with Guangdong commodities on display and talked to an exhibitor:
"You should help build up the good images of Guangdong people, to be trustworthy in selling products to Hunan people. And we thank you for your efforts in introducing Guangdong products to Hunan."


GD's First AH1N1 Patient Discharged from Hospital
According to the Guangdong Health department, the province's first confirmed A/H1N1 patient is expected to be discharged from hospital this morning. 90 of the patient's close-contacts who had also been put in quarantine will also be released tonight (May 22nd).


China Updates Spending Details of Stimulus Fund
China's economic planning body released a breakdown yesterday of how the government's 4 trillion yuan (586 billion U.S. dollars) stimulus funding was spent. The money was invested into seven main areas, including the construction of low-income houses and infrastructure projects in rural areas. In the past few weeks, the stimulus package has come under criticism by private company owners, who have complained that only state owned companies (SOC) will benefit from the funding, leaving the private sector in a weak position amidst the financial crisis.

Fire kills 13 in Underwear and Earphone plant in Guangdong
13 people died and four others were seriously injured when a fire engulfed a private workshop in Shantou yesterday. A spokesman from the fire department said the ground floor of the five-storey factory caught fire at about 7 a.m. and that it took 3 hours to put the fire out. Investigations into the cause of the fire are still underway.
