CPI falls 1.5% year on year in April The National Bureau of Statistics announced today China's consumer price index (CPI),the main gauge of inflation,fell 1.5% year on year in April. As for the producer price index (PPI), a major measure of inflation at the wholesale level, it fell 6.6% over the same period.
Growth enterprise board may launch in October The country's long-awaited NASDAQ-style second board could start as early as October and with 40 listed firms. The opening of the second board, otherwise called a growth enterprise board (GEB), has been timed to coincide with the completion of the initial public offering reform on the main board. New listings were suspended in September 2008 due to excessive pricing abuse. Since then, China's Securities Regulatory Commission has been preparing new rules to avoid previous loopholes.
HK financial firms have better access to mainland markets After an expanded economic and trade agreement was signed last week, the central government is to ease requirements for Hong Kong banks to expand their existing networks in Guangdong. Guangdong subsidiaries of Hong Kong banks shall be able to expand their network not only in their city of registration, but throughout the whole of the province.

Guangzhou-Bali Direct Route Launched Direct flights between Guangzhou and Bali have been launched by Shenzhen Airlines. Flights are scheduled to leave Guangzhou on Tuesdays and Fridays with return flights from Bali on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
