466 million yuan of deals signed at domestic Conference
Purchase deals amounting to nearly half a billion yuan were signed during the first seminar for domestic buyers, held during the 2nd of the Canton Fair. Our journalist Yang Zhen has the details:
The country's largest trade exhibition, the China Import and Export Fair, shifted its focus to the domestic market in reaction to the drop in demand from overseas markets in the past five months. Two opportunities for domestic buyers to meet exporters were given during the 2nd and 3rd phase. Wen Zhongliang, director of the Business Office for the fair said the conference has achieved some positive results:
"During the first conference, 466 million Yuan¡¯s worth of agreements were signed, and 5 domestic retailers have agreed to allow 15 exporters to set up sale counters in their shops. "
Wen also added that the organizers will do their utmost to solve the problems that occurred during the conferences:
"we will gradually build this conference into a platform for product showcasing and for traders to meet. We are considering fully promoting the 150,000 different commodities from our 20,000 exhibitors to domestic buyers."

Inter-city Rail to Shorten Journey between Dongguan and Huizhou
A ceremony was held in Dongguan today (May 8) to mark the beginning of the construction of the inter-city rail link connecting Dongguan and Huizhou. This line will cost tax payers 13.3 billion yuan and will cut the travel time between to two cities by half an hour. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2014.
