Power generation in China down 3.55% in April China generated 274 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in April, down 3.5 percent from a year earlier. As a major barometer of economic performance, the combined power generation in January and February was close to 490 billion kilowatt hours, down 3.7 percent year on year. The March figure fell 0.71 percent to 286 billion kilowatt hours.

China drafting support plan for renewable energy industry The Chinese government is said to be working on a plan aimed at raising the country's wind power capacity to 100-150 million KWh by 2020. The National Development and Reform Commission is in charge of drafting the renewable energy support plan and according to Shi Pengfei, vice director of the Chinese Wind Energy Association, "China originally planned to achieve a wind capacity of 30 million KWh by 2020. The target could be hit in 2011".
Shenzhen Govt. Sets aside RMB300m for Firms to Expand Shenzhen will set aside at least 300 million yuan (US$44 million) to help local enterprises explore new domestic and international markets this year. The city government will organize four fairs this year in Nanning, Lanzhou, Changchun and Hefei and will subsidize local enterprises attending China's 37 trade fairs by covering 60 percent of booth rental fees and 30 percent of advertising expenses.
Guangzhou Home Appliance Retail Market Grew Fast Despite the financial crisis, the home appliance retail market in Guangzhou saw strong growth over the May Day holiday. Suning saw its sales revenues leap by more than 70% in the three days and GOME witnessed an over 30% rise. In particularly, the market share of China-made TVs jumped to 55%.
Chinese listed companies net profit up 450% in Q1 The combined net profit of all 1,624 listed companies in the Chinese mainland hit just over 200 billion yuan (about 30 billion U.S. dollars) in the first quarter, up 450 percent from the last quarter in 2008.
