Zhong Nanshan: A/H1N1 likely to Experience a Second-round Outbreak
The famous academic Zhong Nanshan, who contributed immensely towards fighting SARS and avian flu, said yesterday (May 5th) that the northern hemisphere, including China, is likely to experience a second-round outbreak of influenza A/H1N1 in Autumn. Our reporter Luo Su has the story:
"The influenza will evolve. For example, at the early stage of SARS, it wasn't highly infectious or deadly. As the virus developed, it underwent mutation. Therefore it is hard to say today whether or not this virus is dangerous or not. We should be on high alert and ready if the virus does evolve into a more deadly human-to-human pandemic."
