China to Allocate Five Billion Yuan for Flu Prevention and Control As H1N1, a subtype of influenza A, has already spread to over 20 countries and regions, the PRC is taking swift actions to keep the deadly virus at bay. The State Council said yesterday (May 6th) that the country will continue to impose strict medical examinations on travelers from flu-affected countries and regions to prevent an outbreak. After a meeting presided over by Premier Wen Jiabao, The Council announced a series of measures which include vehicles and cargo from flu-affected areas to be disinfected; a 5 billion yuan allowance for flu prevention and control; cooperate between Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and finally financial and technical support for countries and regions that need assistance.
The Chartered Plane Picking up Stranded Nationals Expected to Arrive in SH Today The chartered plane sent by the Chinese Government to repatriate its citizens left Mexico at 2:45 this morning and is expected to land in Shanghai this afternoon(May, 6th). The plane is bringing back nearly 100 Chinese citizens who's holidays were unfortunately cut short due to the swine flu outbreak.
Obama administration announces int'l tax law reforms to close loopholes On Monday(May, 4th); the Obama administration unveiled a plan to reform U.S. international tax laws in a move to close taxation loopholes through offshore tax havens. The U.S. government said it will tighten the tax-code provision that allow firms to defer paying taxes on profits they make overseas as long as those earnings are reinvested back into foreign subsidiaries.
