The local health authority has tightened precaution measures to prevent influenza A/H1N1, from the beginning of the 3rd phase of the Canton Fair, which opened on Sunday. Everyone attending the Fair, which continues until Thursday (May 7), must go through an ear temperature check when entering into the Pazhou Complex. Anyone with a temperature higher than 36 degrees Celsius will undergo a further medical check.

Order at the entrance remains fine, despite the new policy. A few attendees are wearing masks in the wake of the newly confirmed case in Hong Kong. One person explained: "Hong Kong has confirmed one case and the patient is reported to have taken a flight before arrival. Maybe some of the passengers on the same flight have come to Guangzhou. So I am more careful." Another added: "but it seems very few people are wearing masks. We are just being prudent." In addition to temperature checks, the fair has implemented five other precautionary measures, including daily status reports of influenza A and closely monitoring visitors from epidemic infected areas. Sterilization of the ventilation system at the complex has been strengthened and a special temporary medical point has been set up in the hall. The epidemic is certainly casting another shadow over Canton Fair, the biggest trade fair in China , which has already been hit hard by the global financial crisis. This has been today's "Hello Canton Fair---dealing with the crisis". Please stay tuned tomorrow for more news updates.
