Guangdong Takes More Measures to Offer Residence for Those in Need Guangdong is to carry out a test policy to solve housing problems for families facing financial difficulties. The director of Guangdong's Construction Department, Fang Qingfang, said at a press conference yesterday (Feb. 16) that economically strong city governments should build or purchase houses to rent them to those in need, such as residents who need temporary shelter whilst their houses are dismantled or removed, to those who just started working, or to low-income families. Fang said the rent for these houses should be strictly monitored so as to ensure they remain affordable to those most in need.

PRD Cities Join Hands in Environmental Protection At a press conference held at the side of the ongoing Guangdong People's Congress, the province's top legislature, chief of the Guangdong Environmental Protection Bureau, Li Qing, addressed the media. Our journalist Yangzhen has more: As the government is now working on the integration of cities in Pearl River Delta, environmental issues have come under the spotlight. Li Qing explains: we'll focus on 3 key aspects when it comes to improving the environment in the Pearl River Delta. First, we will have an overall plan for the industries in the PRD. Second, we will have an overall layout for the construction of large-scale environmental protection facilities. Third, air and water quality will be jointly monitored and treated throughout all of the PRD.
GZ Volunteers Return from Seychelles 12 volunteers from Guangzhou completed their one-year mission in the Seychelles of the coast of Africa, and came home to China yesterday (Feb 16). The team was composed of 7 medical workers, two music teachers, one Chinese teacher, one table tennis coach and one Gymnastic coach. During their service in the Seychelles, the team treated nearly 9000 patients, taught over 270 students and trained 290 athletes. They helped train the first Chinese teacher in the Seychelles and athletes they followed won 5 gold medals, 7 silver and 13 bronze in international competitions.
