Free Medical Check for Compulsory Education Students Guangdong's primary and junior high school students will be given an annual free medical check-up starting in the coming autumn semester. This policy was announced yesterday (Feb. 16) by the Guangdong government, stressing the importance of improving the health of youths. The policy also stipulates that schools should organize 30 minutes of sport activities during the class break every day. What's more, in order to push students to run that extra mile, junior high students' physical education marks will from now on account for 8% of their senior high school entrance examination.

GD Seeks to Cooperate with Singapore In Guangzhou yesterday (Feb.16), the Secretary of Guangdong's CPC Committee, Wang Yang, met with a Singaporean delegation led by the Minister of Education, Lui Tuck Yew, and the Minister of Trade and Industry, Lee Yi Shyan. Wang pointed out that, amidst the global economic crisis, Guangdong and Singapore are facing new opportunities for strategic cooperations. Wang also added that Guangdong, being China's economic power house and the largest province in population, is a good market for Singapore to continue exploiting.
Measures Released to Boost Housing Sales At a press conference held yesterday (Feb 16th) on the side of the ongoing Guangdong People's Congress, the province's top legislature, the government announced it would continue to encourage people to buy houses thanks to various new policies. Guangdong will gradually increase the number of beneficiaries and the amount of the housing accumulation fund, a provident fund accumulated by contributions from employees and employers. In addition, application procedures for loans will be simplified.
