2nd Plenary Session of Guangdong Provincial People's Congress to Be Held Tomorrow

The second plenary session of the 11th Guangdong Provincial People's Congress will be held tomorrow (Feb 13th) morning in Guangzhou. The congress will last five days, closing Tuesday afternoon. A total of 790 representatives will take part in the congress and over 100 citizens and consuls from 25 consulates in Guangzhou will attend the congress as observers.


Guangdong Government Issues New Measures to Boost The Set up of Self-employed Companies

The Guangdong Government issued an official paper to encourage people from all walks of life to start their own businesses. The paper specifies that the range of fields open to self-sponsored companies would be extended. Namely, all areas except those strictly forbidden by law will be opened. Other specifications include scrapping the limit of capital money required when self-employed individuals register their business and giving subsidies to underprivileged farmers.


China Stockpiles Bird Flu Vaccine for Possible Outbreak

The nation's food and drug regulator said yesterday (Feb 11th) that China has built up stocks of domestically produced human bird flu vaccine in case of an epidemic. A spokeswoman for the State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) said that the vaccine, Panflu, is produced by the Beijing-based Sinovac Biotech Co., Ltd and is designed to defend humans from 18 to 60 years old against the H5N1 virus and its epidemic variety. The SFDA authorized Sinovac to begin commercial production of the vaccine in April 2008 after more than two years of clinical trials, making China the world's second country with the technology and industrial capacity to produce human bird flu vaccine.
