Citizens Appreicate Lantern Shows for Festival Celebration Yesterday (February 9) was Chinese Lantern Festival, celebrated throughout the province with various shows and performances. In Guangzhou, citizens watched lantern displays and admired the full moon. The city's culture park was packed last night, with over 2000 lanterns on display. One citizen said, "Admiring the lanterns is one of the traditions. I came here to feel the atmosphere, although it is a little bit too crowded." With crowds becoming so large, latter in the evening park authorities even had to turn off some of the lanterns to dissuade visitors.

Giant Blaze Consumes Luxury Hotel in BJ In Beijing, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel right next to the iconic headquarters of CCTV, caught fire at 8:27 last night. The blaze lasted until 2am this morning during which nearly 1,000 people were evacuated. One firefighter died fighting the fire that police believe to have been caused by illegally ignition of fireworks.
Stars Shine at the 51st Grammy Awards The 51st annual Grammy Awards ended in Los Angeles on Sunday( February 8). Former Led Zeppelin lead vocalist Robert Plant and his stage partner Alison Krauss dominated this year's session, taking home five awards, including the most coveted "Album of the Year". Although Chinese musicians made a breakthrough by getting five nominations, only Gloria Cheng won the "Best Instrumental Soloist Performance"award.
