Regions Reel from Severe Drought
The Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) announced Wednesday that a severe drought is continuing to hit several regions in the country, leaving at least 3.7 million people short of water and endangering crop in at least seven major grain-producing provinces. The dry spell has been lasting since November, affecting at least 9.53 million hectares of farmland, in other words, 43 percent of the country's winter wheat supplies. China's top leaders have ordered relevant departments to step up support for the affected provinces to ensure the summer harvest. Tens of thousands of people have been mobilized in each drought-affected province to help with relief work.

China Raises Garment, Textile Export Tax Rebate Rate to 15%
During an executive meeting of the State Council on Wednesday, it was decided that China will increase the tax rebate for textile and garment exports from 14 to 15 percent. Although the effective date of the new rate wasn't specified, this move will reduce costs, therefore supporting the textile industry. In a national plan to invigorate China's textile industry adopted by the State Council Wednesday, the government will allocate funds for companies that produce textiles or fibers, or operate in the textile printing and dyeing sector, in order to upgrade technology and develop domestic brands.
