GD's Per Capita GDP in 2008 Exceeding 5000 US Dollars
The Guangdong Bureau of Statistics announced yesterday, that Guangdong's GDP for 2008 is over 3.5 trillion Yuan; making the regional GDP per capita exceed 5000 US Dollars, a level that Guangdong was only scheduled to reach in two years time. These figures should provide strong financial support for the Province to realize its economic transition and industrial restructuring.


Partial Solar Eclipse to Be Seen on New Year's Day in Guangdong

According to the Guangdong Astronomical Society, on the first day of the Chinese New year, Monday the 26th, a solar eclipse will cross the Indian Ocean and Indonesia, and a partial solar eclipse will be seen in Guangdong. No other eclipses are expected in Guangdong until 2047.

Strong Cold front Hits Guangdong Today

A strong cold front coming down from Siberia is expected to hit Guangdong today, with temperatures dropping considerably throughout the province. A north wind will intensify today and tomorrow, and drizzle with snow is expected in the mountains in northern Guangdong. Temperatures in the north and west will range from 0 to 4 degrees tomorrow and on Sunday, might even drop below 0. Tomorrow (Jan 24), Guangzhou's lowest temperatures are expected to range between 6 and 7 degrees.

Intra-national Plane Ticket Prices Start to Drop

With only three days left before the Chinese New Year, prices of plane tickets have started to drop to as low as 20% of the original price. Outbound tickets to cities in Eastern China have seen the biggest price cuts: often between 50 to 70% off for destinations like Shanghai and Wenzhou and 80% off for Hangzhou, therefore as low as 210 Yuan.
