Canton Fair to Apply New Measure to Lower the Financial Burden of Chinese Export Enterprises
A Canton Fair spokesman said today (Jan 21) that a series of new measures will be set-up to lighten the burden on Chinese export-orientated enterprises during the upcoming 105th Canton Fair, so as to retain a stable growth rate in exports. The new measures will include postponing the closing hour of the exhibition complex by 1 hour to enable more business opportunities; to lower the booth rent by 1000 to 2000 Yuan, and to spend over 10 million Yuan on overseas advertising to attract more foreign buyers.

Public Institutions to Disclose All Charges to The Public
Guangdong Government announced yesterday (Jan 20) that from now on, public institutions will be obligated to disclose all their charges to the public. For items unsuitable to be disclosed immediately, sufficient explanations should be given. These institutions include schools, hospitals, water, electricity and gas suppliers and environmental protection institutions.

Department Stores in Guangzhou Launch Large-scale Promotions
As the New Year holiday draws near, many department stores in Guangzhou have launched large-scaled promotions, with price cuts as huge as 70%. Our jounalist Chang Zhifeng has the details:
The promotions are resulting in substantial sales revenue. However, some merchandisers and suppliers revealed that they aren't actually profiting a lot from the phenomena. Many important price-cuts were made by suppliers in order to gain back the capital amidst the current financial crisis.
A person in charge of a department store said:
Most merchandisers and suppliers are trying to use price-cuts as a means to push-up their sales. But I don't think the cuts will continue to increase. 70% off is the limit I think. Some suppliers are actually losing money with such price-cuts. The only reason they are doing this is to gain capital.
