Free Commuter Buses to be Provided to Railway Passengers In Guangzhou, new measures have been announced this year to handle the heavy passenger flow expected during the Spring Festival travel rush. From Jan 15 onwards, the Pazhou complex will be transformed into a huge waiting room for travelers heading home for the New Year. Free commuter buses will be transferring passengers from the Pazhou complex to 9 coach terminals throughout the city and to the railway stations.

The 2010 Asian Games to Exceed Beijing Olympics in Competition and Venues The 16th Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee has been reporting the progress they've made so far. An official said that there would be 42 competitions and 464 gold medals should be awarded. The 16th Asian Games will take place in 50 stadiums and approximately 3000 athletes are expected to attend the games. Both the number of competitions as well as the number of stadiums surpasses those of the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.
Retirement Pensions in Guangdong to Increase in 2009 Lin Yingwu, deputy-head of Guangdong's Labor and Social Security Bureau, said yesterday (Jan 7th) that starting from 2009, retirement pensions for companies with pension funds, often previously state owned companies, shall increase by 10% per month, that's an average of 120 Yuan per person. Guangdong's 2.5 million funded retirees all over Guangdong will see their pensions rise before the Spring Festival. With this new policy, Guangdong authorities are increasing pension expenditures by nearly 4 billion Yuan.
