Guangzhou Not Emphasizes on GDP Growth
Guangzhou will no longer emphasize on GDP growth when it comes to the city's blueprint. Secretary of Guangzhou's CPC Committee, Zhu Xiaodan, made this announcement yesterday (Jan 6th) during a discussion with provincial authorities about the issues Guangdong should focus. Zhu said that to compete and implement high-tech projects in Guangzhou, the city government should make improvements in the following areas:
"Guangzhou should provide better industrial policies, enhance services and improve work efficiency."

Up to 100 Petrol Stations to Reduce Gas Price in Guangzhou
Starting this month, over 60 gas stations in Guangzhou including Sinopec's 30 stations located along major roads have joined the price-reduction campaign. Sinopec has reduced its gas prices by a maximum of 0.2 Yuan per liter since China National Petroleum Co. initiated the gas price reduction campaign at the end of last month.

Chinese Naval Fleet Carries out First Escort Mission off Somalia
After arriving in the waters off the coast of Somalia yesterday (Jan 6) the Chinese naval fleet started carrying out their first escort mission. Four Chinese merchant ships, including one from China's Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, were escorted by the two destroyers, whilst another 15 Chinese merchant ships have requested the fleet's protection.
