GD's Work Focus for 2009 Announced
The Forth Plenary Session of the Tenth Guangdong CPC Committee was held in Guangzhou yesterday (5th). Guangdong Governor, HuangHuahua, made the arrangement of work for this year. More details from our reporter Chengang.
Huang outlined ten economic work focuses. Here are some points.
"Our priority will be given to guarantee the stable and relatively rapid economic development. We will accelerate the economic transition and restructuring, and continue to improve people's living standards."

Guangzhou Checks the Environmental Protection Labels on Cars
Guangzhou is launching the implementation if the cars without the green environmental protection labels on the windshield, will be only allowed to run on the restricted areas. The move is an effort to protect the environment as the green environmental protection labels are issued to cars which meet the nationally recognized emission standards. Yesterday was the first launch day of the measure, many cars were found not putting on the labels or not yet applying for the labels. The restriction will be made at a gradual pace and no penalties will be made at the current stage.

China's External Trade Surplus Expected to Hit 290 Billion U.S. Dollars  in 2008

According to a report released on Sunday by the General Administration of Customs, China's foreign trade reached close to 2.55 trillion U.S. dollars last year, up 18 percent from 2007,. It also said that the trade surplus was about 290 billion U.S. dollars.
