New Chinese Women Football Team in the Training
The new Chinese women's football team is having a nearly one-month training in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. During their training period, the team will visit the United States and take part in three competitions with its national women's football team. Nearly half of the team consists of new members who were elected to the team for the first time.
Doctors, teachers under new graft interpretation
The Supreme People's Court (SPC) and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP) issued a new judicial interpretation yesterday (24th, Nov) stating that Doctors and teachers may now face bribery charges if they receive monetary or other forms of reward in exchange for favors made through their work. Organizers of sport and cultural activities will also be covered under the new interpretation. Previously, the Criminal Law stipulated that bribery crimes were limited to government officials or employees of State companies.
Obama Taps Heavyweights to Help Economy out of 'Vicious Cycle' US President-elect Barack Obama unveiled his economic policy team in Chicago on Monday (Nov 24th). Timothy Geithner was picked as Secretary of the Treasury and Lawrence Summers as director of the National Economic Council. The dual selection is aimed at setting up a formidable team to take on the global financial crisis. Geithner at Treasury will likely take on a defensive role, spreading the remains of the $700 billion Troubled Assets Relief Program whilst Summers will be the architect of the administration's offensive economic stimulus proposals.
