Guangzhou Tea Expo Starts Exhibition

The annual Guangzhou Tea Expo, one of China's most influential tea Expos, started today (November 20) at the Continental international exhibition center located in Guangzhou's Pazhou district. Our journalist Lin Shuhua has the details:

This expo has attracted this year exhibitors from 9 countries, including India, Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Kenya. Deputy Chief of the China Tea Marketing Association, Wangqing, told media that, as the one of the largest tea production centers in the world, China has over 800 tea planting counties, with an annual output of 1.2 million tons. However, the secretary-general of the association Wu Xiduan worries that the global financial crisis will cast a shadow over tea sales:

"I worry that tea sales are likely to decrease as citizens' income drops. Among the 5 necessities in Chinese families, oil, salt, sauce, vinegar and tea, tea ranks the last. When experiencing financial difficulties, people give up tea first."
