660 Torch Bearers to be selected for Asian Para Games
The Guangzhou Asian Para Games Organising Committee (GAPGOC) launched a selection campaign for torchbearers yesterday (September 1).The Torch Relay of the 2010 Asian Para Games will take place in Guangzhou from December 3 to 11.
Yang Wu, the Director of the Torch Relay Operations Centre revealed the detailed plan at a press conference yesterday:
"The flame will be lit on the sightseeing platform of the new Guangzhou TV Tower on December 3rd, the International Day for People with Disabilities, and displayed at different public places from December 4 to 9. The Torch Relay will be held in the Guangzhou Science City and Asian Games Town on December 10 and 11."
660 torch-bearers will be selected and people with disabilities should make up no less than 20% of them. Sun Huimin, a successful disabled entrepreneur, believes the torch relay is a way to demonstrate disabled people's strong spirit:
" during the relay we might highlight the torch bearers¡¯ unusual stories, so that more people can learn about their perseverance and courage in confronting difficulty. "
Interior Decorate in old districts can continue during the Games
As of September 30th, all construction projects in Guangzhou shall be suspended for the Asian Games, in hope that it shall improve the air quality. However, this policy won't affect interior decoration for individual households. Between September 30th and December 22nd, the Asian Games period, households in the 6 downtown districts can continue interior decoration but no work is allowed during the evening. For other areas, people are asked to follow these restrictions according to their distance from the Asian Games Town.
