Students May be Able to Enjoy Holiday to Watch Asian Games The Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee is studying the possibility of allowing primary and middle school students to not attend class during the Games so they can watch the competitions. Guangzhou Vice Mayor, Xu Ruisheng, revealed this idea when meeting 7 teenagers that have been elected "Little Mayors of Guangzhou". These little mayors gave lots of suggestions on how to improve the Games and how to promote Guangzhou's image through its world-famous cuisines. Xu, also executive deputy secretary-general of the Games' Organizing Committee, was fascinated by the broad number of topics the students wanted to discuss.

Zhaoqing Inkstone will become Official Inkstone Yesterday (August 6), a master of Chinese inkstone sculptures, Luo Jianquan from Zhaoqing, was authorized to make the franchised official inkstones for the Guangzhou Asian Games. Inkstones originated in China and are used in calligraphy, painting, and other forms of brush painting. Inkstones from Zhaoqing are called "Duan Inkstone", and have the reputation of being one of the four best Inkstones in China. They are fine and do not damage the brush. According to ancient documents, "Duan Inkstone" were first produced in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). They are made of Duan stone from the Duanxi River running at the foot of Lanke Mountain, hence the name.
Dongfeng Road to have face-lift Dongfeng Road, one of Guangzhou major arteries will have a face-lift to improve the landscape and the appearance alongside the road before the Guangzhou Asian Games. 80 million yuan will be allocated to decorate the 6.8 kilometer-long road which passes by Sun Yatsen Memorial Hall and Yuexiu Square.
