Asian Games Begins Accepting Private Contributions The Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee (GAGOC) will start accepting individual and corporate contributions today (August 6) until December 31, 2010. Financial contributions are a common practice for major sporting events throughout the world, although some justly point out that local taxes are already quite an important contribution. Obviously cash is the most common participation, but companies can also offer goods, equipment and services. All relevant information will soon be available on the Asian Games' official website and in the official magazine.
Volunteer Messengers Arrived Tibetan Tanggula Mountains A group of 127 Asian Games messengers arrived yesterday (August 5) in the Tanggula Mountains in Tibet, the same place as where the Asian Games flame was lit before the Beijing Asian Games in 1990. The whole journey started last Tuesday and took the volunteers through six provinces, covering nearly 7,000 kilometers. Asian Games messengers are promoting the 16th Asian Games and Guangzhou in a casual manner. Since it was been launched on June 30, they have already traveled to Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Hong Kong.
Chinese Athletics Officials Trained for 16th Asian Games A four-day training course for 237 Chinese athletics staff that will work for the 16th Asian Games is being held from the 4th to the 7th of August in Guangzhou. Shen Chunde, a senior official from the Chinese General Administration of Sport, and Li Xiaofeng, a senior executive from the Games' Organizing Committee (GAGOC) spoke to the trainees at the beginning of the course, reminding them of the importance of this first training course for Asian Games' technical staff.
