GZ to Launch Second Drill over Asian Games Traffic Control
The 2nd test run of the vehicle limitations measures including the odd or even license plate restrictions will be held between this Saturday and next Tuesday in Guangzhou. Violators will be fined 200 yuan and 3 points will be deducted from their driving license. Different from the first drill, the test period will be shortened by3 hours, starting at 8am, and ending at 8pm.. Previously, officials had announced that other cities in the PRD would join in this test. However, at yesterday's press conference, the spokesman said other PRD cities would decide, by themselves, whether to participate in the test or not.
More from our reporter Li Hui:
Jie Yalin, from the Guangzhou Communications Commission, said the drill shall use the exclusive lanes for the official Asian Games cars. From 6 a.m. till 10 p.m., normal cars will be prohibited from running on the left lane on Huanshi Lu and Tianhe Lu. During the Asian Games, there will be 125 kilometers of dedicated lanes to offer easy access for athletes.
In response to complaints during the last drill that most violators were from outside Guangzhou and therefore didn't know about the restrictions, Jie promised to improve communication:
"We will send millions of sms to drivers about the drill, whilst, we will issue millions of notices to inform drivers and we will also release the news to neighboring cities."

China's import drive to be launched
The Ministry of Commerce has pledged to vigorously expand imports. Chong Quan, the Ministry's international trade negotiation deputy representative yesterday (Sept 6th) said, China in the future will launch eight measures to encourage high-tech and key equipment imports, to facilitate imports and to optimize the structure of imports. China has become the world's second largest importer and the overall import tariff dropped to 9.8%, far less, according to the ministry, than the average of around 47% amongst developing countries.
