Tropical Storm Lion Rock Hits Fujian
The tropical storm Lion Rock landed in Gulei County in Fujian Province this morning at 6:50 with winds of up to gale force 9. Under its influence, Fujian, Guangdong, Zhejiang and even Shanghai will experience rainstorms. Lion Rock is still moving rapidly northwestwards at a speed of 10-15 kph.

More Migrant Workers to be Given Permanent Residency
A notice issued previously to allow more migrant workers in Shenzhen to get permanent residency in the city has been approved by the municipal government. The new regulation stipulates that those who have a temporary residence permit in the city today need only 60 points to apply for a hukou. It is expected that 8.7 million people will benefit from the policy.

Chinese National Men's Basketball Lost to Russia, No Hope of Making into Next Round 
The Chinese National Men's Basketball team yesterday (1st) lost to Russia 80-89 at their fourth appearance at the FIBA World Championship in Turkey. One day earlier they were also defeated by Puerto Rico. The national team has one more game to play against but with no hope of making it into the next round.

Chinese Fishing Ship Struck Down by a Korean Cargo Vessel, All Crew Disappeared
Xinhua News Agency reports that a Chinese Fishing Ship was struck down by a Korean cargo vessel yesterday (1st) out at sea to the west of the Korean peninsula. All crew members of the fishing vessel disappeared. The Chinese Embassy in Korea has ordered a thorough search and rescue mission which has so far been fruitless.
