Torch Relay for Asian Para Games will Take Place from Dec 3 to 11
The 2010 Guangzhou Asian Para Games torch relay will take place from Dec 3rd to the 11th in Guangzhou. On the 3rd, the torch will be lite at the Guangzhou TV Tower and from the 4th to 9th it will be displayed at different public places such as the Culture Plaza. On 10th, the relay itself will be held at the Science Center as well as in the Asian Games Town. 660 torch-bearers will be selected and people with disabilities should make up no less than 20% of it.
National IV Standard now Effective in GZ
Starting today (1st), Guangzhou will impose the National IV standard regulation to monitor vehicle emissions. Vehicles who don't meet the standard will not be allowed to run on the roads and those who haven't registered a license plate will not be allowed to do so either.
3 Tropical Storms and Typhoons Affect GD
Three tropical storms and typhoons, Lion Rock, Kompasu and Namtheun, are gaining momentum in southeast China and Lion Rock is moving at a faster speed than was recorded yesterday, now at 23 meters/second near the Guangdong city of Shanwei. It is likely to land in Shanwei or Xiamen in Fujian Province after midnight or early tomorrow morning. Therefore Eastern Guangdong and the west of the province will very likely experience heavy rainstorms.
Smoking banned in public venues
Guangzhou's new smoking regulation takes effect today (September 1st). Smoking is banned in public venues such as train stations and metro platforms. Violators shall be fined 50 yuan. Citizens can also called 12319 to report on any violations.
