ID required for new cell phones
All individuals including foreigners shall now have to present a valid ID card when purchasing a phone number starting today (Sep. 1st), in the latest campaign by the government to curb spam, pornographic messages and fraud sent to cellular phones. Street newspaper stands will now be banned from selling SIM cards before they are instructed on how to register new users.

Security Check Strengthened Prior to the Games
Beginning today (September 1), all vehicles entering Guangzhou will need to go through a special security check, a move to strengthen security in town prior to the Guangzhou Asian Games. In addition, those wishing to check in at hotels without showing an ID card or passport should apply for a certificate at the local public security bureau.
Stricter regulation enacted on product security check
The Guangdong Administration of Industry and Commerce enacted stricter regulations on product safety checks. From now on, if a product fails to meet given standards during a random check, all batches of the product, if they are of the same design, will be recalled. Previously, only products from the same batch were recalled.
