Tropical storm Lion Rock to land today or tomorrow
The tropical storm Lion Rock is likely to land in eastern Guangdong tonight (September 1) or tomorrow, and is expected to cause serious damage. Meanwhile, Typhoon Kompasu and Tropical storm Namtheun are also gaining momentum in southeastern China, making it more complicated to predict Lion Rock's trajectory. The converging forces will bring heavy rain to the region as they move further northwest. Governor Huang Huahua has ordered related departments to take precaution measures.
Guangzhou Asian Games Town Handed over to GAGOC
The Guangzhou Asian Games Town, the largest venue built especially for the Guangzhou Asian Game, is now completed and was delivered to the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee yesterday (August 31). Top government leaders including Guangdong governor Huang Huahua and the secretary of the Guangzhou CPC Committee Zhang Guangning attended the handover ceremony. Located in southern Guangzhou, the site of the Asian Games Town covers 2.73 square kilometers. It consists of seven major parts, including the Athletes' Village, the Technical Officials' Village, the Media Village, the Main Media Center, the Logistics Area, the Gymnasium, and the Asian Games Park.
Smoking banned in public venues
Guangzhou's new smoking regulation takes effect today (September 1st). Smoking is banned in public venues such as train stations and metro platforms. Violators shall be fined 50 yuan. Citizens can also called 12319 to report on any violations.
