Huizhou Section of Guang-Shan Expressway Free of Charge
Officially effective today (Aug 30th), the controversial toll fee on the Huizhou section of the Guangzhou-Shantou expressway has been cancelled. The Huizhou section is 143.6 kilometers long and a fee has been charged since 1992. The money raised by the toll fee was to pay for the road's initial construction after which it would be cancelled, supposidly by the year 2000. However, the road was sold to a Hong Kong-based company in 2000 which extended the right to charge drivers for the next 30 years. The cancellation of the toll fee came after an intense enqueries by Guangdong NPC representatives and by media.
Foreign Affairs Delegation Now on the Visit in GZ for Asian Games Preparation
A delegation led by Mr. Zhang Zhijun, the Vice Foreign Minister and the head of the State Council's foreign affairs coordination team for the Guangzhou Asian Games and Para Games, is now inspecting Guangzhou. Deputy Guangdong Governors, Mr. Lin Musheng and Mr. Liu Kun met with the team this afternoon regarding foreign affairs during the games. Up until now, seven countries have expresssed the wish to attend the opening and closing ceremonies of the games.
Green Online Games First Launched by GD
Co-developed by the Guangdong Tourism Bureau and Netease.com, a China-based Internet technology company, an green online game was launched yesterday(Aug 29th). Netizens can visit their favorite countries on a map and click to water the tree of life set aside in each country. This game is the first of its kind in the nation and aims to boost environmental protection awareness.
6th Tropical Storm to Hit GD
The 6th tropical storm of the year, named Lionrock, formed over the China Sea to the south-east to Shenzhen yesterday afternoon. The meteorological office expects Lionrock to move at a speed of 5-10 km per hour and to hit the center and east of Guangdong some time today. It is also expected that Eastern Guangdong shall see rainstorms on Wednesday and Thursday. Today in Guangzhou the weather will be mainly fine with temperatures ranging between 26 and 36 degrees.
