Celebration held to Mark 30th anniversary of SEZ
Today (August 26) marks the 30th anniversary of the initiative to build coastal "special economic zones" (SEZs). Shenzhen, Shantou, Zhuhai and Xiamen were amongst the earliest experiments, planned by Deng Xiaoping, the architect of the Chinese reform and opening-up. The aim was to connect and to eventually integrate China into the global economy. In Shenzhen, a series of celebrations are being held, including exhibitions, firework shows and the opening of a memorial park. Yesterday, Shenzhen started construction on 60 big projects with a total investment of over 100 billion yuan, a special tribute to the 30th anniversary.
2010 GZ Fair Opens
The 2010 Guangzhou Fair opened today at the China Import & Export Commodities Trade Venue. Exhibitors from Guangzhou and 20 other cities in China including Hong Kong and Macau, are displaying their products and services at the fair. The fair opens at 9:00 every day and closes at 5:00 pm, except this Sunday, the last day of the exhibition, where the fair closes at 4:00 pm.
Eight HK slain tourists returned home
Yesterday (August 25), a charter flight brought home the bodies of the eight Hong Kong victims of the bus hijacking which occurred in the Philippines this week. The Hong Kong government announced that today (Aug 26) would be a day of mourning and three minutes of silence were observed at 8 am.

Foshan Distributes Free City Guide Books to Foreigners ahead of Asian Games
As the Guangzhou Asian Games draw near, Foshan, a co-host city of the Games, has compiled a booklet named "Foshan's Guide for Foreigners" to help visitors from around the world get around in the city. The booklet introduces to foreign guests Foshan's tourism spots as well as provides them with information on transportation, hotels, as well as of the foreign consulates. These booklets will be given out for free.
