CNTA Issues Prudence Reminder to Tourists against Philippines
To follow up on the shocking hijacking of a Chinese Hong Kong tour bus which rendered at least 10 people dead, including the murderer himself, the insurance money of the 24 victims involved has increased to 1 million HKD from the 500,000 million. Earlier last night, the Hong Kong Government issued a "black" label to tourists warning them not to go to the Philippines for now, and this morning the Chinese National Tourism Administration also issued a reminder to Chinese Mainland citizens that they should be prudent in deciding traveling to the Philippines at the moment.

 

GZ Government Calls for Netizens Ideas for Asian Games
With the Asian Games just around the corner, a campaign recently started, launched by the Guangzhou Government, named "Embrace the Asian Games, Create a New Life" asking netizens' for ideas for the Games. From now on until Sep 20th, people can send emails to wenji@dayoo.cn to explain what they think should happen, what events or shows, during the 16th Asian Games.

 

13 Criminal Acts could be Removed from Death Penalty List
It has long been the international trend to decrease the number of criminal acts that can lead to the death penalty, often even abolish it. China now claims it shall follow this trend with the goververnment considering the Amendment VIII to the Criminal Law which proposes to cancel 13 current death penalty criminal acts. These acts would be non violent in nature, and seldom - in practice - lead to the death penalty today. But if approved, this will be the first time in modern Chinese history the government relaxes the conditions in which the death penalty applies, a big step for a country which executes more criminals than all the other nations combined.

 

"Mindulle" Bring Storms to Western GD
The fifth tropical storm of the year "Mindulle" has caused strong winds of up to gale force 9 in the Qiongzhou Straits between Guangdong's Leizhou Peninsula and Hainan Island. Today (August 24) and tomorrow, strong winds and torrential rain will hit western Guangdong. Last night, 7 cities in Guangdong issued rainstorm and typhoon warnings.
