"Finding Gold" exhibition shown in Guangzhou
A historical exhibition called "Finding Gold" is being held at the Guangdong Overseas Chinese Museum from August 12th to September 12th. The exhibition reveals the often unheard story of the gold rush in Australia in 1851 that led a great number of Chinese people to leave for those distant shores. Our journalist Zheng Yun has the details:
Australian Consul-General Mr. Grant Dooley and Mr. Wu Ruicheng, the Director-General of the Guangdong Overseas Chinese Affairs Office unveiled the exhibition yesterday. Mr. Grant Dooley explained the close ties between Guangdong and Australia:
"In the last 60 years, Chinese people have come from China and all parts of Asia to settle in Australia, with numbers swelling from 9,000 in the 1950s to 700,000 today. Chinese Australians have been key contributors to the fabric of Australian Society for over 150 years and they now appear at all levels of Australian society, professions, businesses and politics."
The exhibition will move to the Australian Pavilion during the 7th China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair from the 15th to the 18th of September.
