 In 2006, there were 11,276 foreign-capital-involved contracts signed. The contracted foreign capital amounted to US28.389 billion dollars, an increase of 6.1%. The actual foreign investment intake was US17.808 billion dollars, up by 17.36%. Attracting foreign direct investment had been the priority in Guangdong Province. In 2006, the foreign direct invement in Guangdong Province mainly came from Hong Kong, British Virgin lslands, Japan, Samoa, and Singapore.
   In 2006, 7 non-trading enterprises were set up abroad, with a total contract investment of US$56.0151 million, of which US$28.2351 million was from Chinese parties. The destinations of the investment are Thailand, Vietnam, Maylaysia, Saudi Arabia, and Hong Kong.
   By the end of 2006, authorized by the central government, 53 Class I entry-and-exit ports were established (8 at highway, 4 at railway terminals, 36 at harbors, and 5 at airports), taking up 22% of the national total. Among the 36 entry-and-exit ports at harbors, 11 are for passengers only ,10 are for cargoand and 15 are for passengers or cargo. With the approval of the provincial government, 89 second-class entry-and-exit ports (84 for waterway transport, 1 at highway and 4 at railway terminals) were put into operation. Also in operation were 62 checkpoints for cargo vehicles, 30 passenger transport waterway routes to and from Hong Kong and Macao, and 54 flight routes to other countries and regions like the United States, the Netherlands, France, Finland, Russia, Australia, Japan, Southeast Asia, Hong Kong, etc.
   The entry and exit ports/checkpoints registered more than 260 million person/times, 81.5% of the national total; 18.2 million transport vehicles (ship, train and plane), 86.6% of the national total; 299 million tons of goods for import and export, 20.4% of the national total; 25.27 million of TEU of import and export containers, 38.8% of the national total; and 128.16 billion yuan of custom duty collected, 21% of the national total.
   In Guangdong Province, 92 economic development zones have been reassessed and approved, and the GDP generated thereby in the year reached 444.672 billion yuan, an increase of 46.08%, taking up 17.12% of GDP in the province.
